Therapy for Anxiety

Do you live with anxiety?

What this is…

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people come to therapy and one of the most misunderstood. It's not weakness, overthinking, or a failure to just relax. It's a nervous system that learned, usually early and for good reason, that the world required constant vigilance. Therapy is a place to understand where the alarm system came from, and why it's still going off.

Who this is for…

You might be in the right place if…

  • Your mind is always three steps ahead, rehearsing conversations or catastrophizing outcomes

  • You're missing out or showing up to your life feeling wired and depleted at the same time

  • You're functional on the outside — maybe even high-achieving — and exhausted on the inside

  • Physical symptoms like a racing heart, tension, a chest that never fully loosen have become your baseline

  • You avoid situations, relationships, or decisions because the anticipatory dread feels unbearable

  • You second-guess yourself constantly

  • You've been told you worry too much, which only made you worry about worrying

What we work on…

Anxiety rarely lives only in the present moment — it has a history. Using a psychodynamic approach augmented with EMDR and IFS when called for, we go beneath the surface symptoms to the underlying fears, relational patterns, and early experiences that are keeping your nervous system on high alert. We'll work to understand not just what triggers your anxiety, but what it's protecting you from. EMDR can help the nervous system reprocess experiences that talk therapy alone can't fully reach, and on mindfulness practices to help you build a different relationship to anxious thoughts and sensations as they arise. The goal isn't to eliminate discomfort — it's to stop being run by it.

How to get started…

Working together starts with a complimentary consultation call that lasts about fifteen minutes. It helps me to hear briefly what’s bringing you into therapy at this time. I can then answer any questions you may have and share more about how I work. From there you might decide to schedule a session. The best way to tell if we are a fit is to have a session or few. My wish is for you to find the best therapist for your needs, whether that’s me or someone else and we can discover that together by beginning the process and seeing what unfolds.
